Kitimat RCMP weekly report October 26th - November 1st

Turned in backpack:

Are you missing a backpack? A backpack was turned into the Kitimat RCMP detachment on October 26th. There was nothing found in the backpack that could identify the owner. If you are missing a backpack and can identify this one, please contact the Kitimat RCMP at 250-632-7111 and tell us the description, we’d like to have this property returned to the owner. Intoxicated driver:

While on routine patrol in the downtown of Kitimat, during the evening of October 27th, a vehicle caught the attention of a Kitimat RCMP officer. A traffic stop was initiated and an impaired driving investigation was started. After providing a sample of breath, it was found that the ‘N’ driver has consumed alcohol before getting behind the wheel. The driver was issued a 24-hour driving prohibition and the vehicle was impounded. (2023-4130)

Disturbance results in three arrests:

Kitimat RCMP officers responded to a call of a disturbance at a business located on the 800 block of Tsimshian Blvd during the early morning hours of October 28th. Two males were identified to the officers for causing the disturbance and it was reported they had assaulted another person. The two suspects were advised they were under arrest for assault, but would not comply with the officer’s commands and were taken into custody after a struggle. A third person had attempted to obstruct the arrests, as a result, was arrested for obstruction. All three males were lodged into the Kitimat RCMP detachment cells. All three were released later in the morning with one male being charged with assault, mischief and resist arrest. The second male was charged with assault causing bodily harm and mischief. Both males will be attending court on a future date to answer to the charges. The third male was released without charge. (2023-4134)

Laundry list of charges after traffic stop:

A vehicle being operated without headlights on in the dark caught the attention of a patrolling Kitimat RCMP officer during the evening of October 28th. It was found the vehicle insurance was expired and the driver had consumed an intoxicating substance before driving. The driver was charged with driving without insurance, fail to produce registration, fail to display ‘N and given a 24-hour driving prohibition. The vehicle was also impounded. (2023-4142)

Intoxicated door knocker:

A Whitesail neighborhood residence was disturbed during the evening hours of October 30th, by a subject who was knocking / kicking the door loudly. The residence occupant was able to lock the door and call for assistance to other persons in the home. When confronted, the subject ran to the next-door neighbor’s house. The Kitimat RCMP was advised and responded, locating the suspect. It appeared the suspect was under the influence of an intoxicating substance and was arrested. They were lodged into the Kitimat RCMP Detachment cells, being released later in the evening without charge (2023-4168)

Ghost, ghouls and goblins, oh my:

The Kitimat RCMP is very happy to report that the Halloween night was a good night for trick or treating. Several patrols were conducted with candy being handed out by the frontline police officers on shift. There were 5 calls to service with one being a youth that hadn’t come back from trick or treating at the scheduled time. They returned safe very shortly after the report was made and investigation revealed that they were from out of town and got turned around a bit. The Kitimat RCMP would like to thank everyone for being safe while having fun.

Cause a disturbance:

On November 1st, the Kitimat RCMP was called to a business located on the 200 block of City Centre for a disturbance in progress. A male was found to be yelling at a family, and continued to yell at the police officers on scene. Investigation determined the male was intoxicated resulting in him being arrested for causing a disturbance by being intoxicated in public. After sobering up in the Kitimat RCMP cells, the male was released with no charge. (2023-4194)
