From the air, police helicopter Air One observed the activities and clocked the vehicle travelling in excess of 150 km/h in a 50 km/h zone (see attached video). The BMW 135i was impounded and the driver was served a violation ticket for excessive speed.

On April 6, 2022, at approximately 11:00 pm, Surrey RCMP’s Community Response Unit impounded a Toyota Supra and an Infiniti G37 in the same area after observing them street racing. Both drivers were served violation tickets and their vehicles were towed.

The violation tickets issued start at $368 each and in addition, the drivers will be responsible for the tow and impound storage fees. The drivers may also face potential driving prohibitions and insurance implications. At the end of the day, it is not about the monetary value; it’s about addressing and changing high-risk driving behaviors to make our roads safer.

The Surrey RCMP Community Response Unit and Surrey RCMP Traffic Unit actively conduct traffic enforcement in this area, as it is known to attract street racing. Statistics show that speed is a fundamental factor in crash severity and one of the top contributing factors in fatal collisions.

The Surrey RCMP has a zero tolerance approach to street racing. Anyone caught street racing will be subject to a variety of sanctions ranging from fines to vehicle impoundment and in some circumstances Criminal Code charges. says Community Response Unit Staff Sergeant Jag Saran. We are committed to supporting Vision Zero and actively working to prevent serious injuries and fatalities on our roadways.
