Man in custody following homicide and aggravated assault

One man was arrested and remains in custody following a homicide and aggravated assault in the Newton area of Surrey.

Shortly before 9:00 p.m. on October 20, 2020, Surrey RCMP were called to a report of a stabbing inside of a residence in the 12700-block of 66 Avenue. Officers attended and located three people suffering from injuries. An adult female had critical injuries, an adult male had serious injuries, and a two-year-old child had serious but not life-threatening injuries. All three of the injured people were transported to the hospital; the female later died in the hospital.

The suspect fled the scene but was located nearby and arrested by Surrey RCMP. He remains in custody at this time.

The early indications are that this is an incident of family violence. The parties involved are known to one another. There is no indication of a risk to the public as a result of this incident.

The area surrounding the scene will be cordoned off for a significant amount of time. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has been called and will be working in partnership with the Surrey RCMP.

Police are currently in the evidence-gathering phase, no further information will be provided at this time. Further details and media availability will be handled by the IHIT Media Relations Officer.
