Surrey RCMP celebrating Police Week: #ThruOurLens
2020-05-08 14:17 PDT
May 10-15 marks Police Week here in Surrey and across Canada. National Police Week began in 1970 as a way for police to connect with their communities and increase awareness about the services they provide.
Surrey RCMP would normally be kicking off Police Week with our annual Open House, a community event where the public is invited to our Main Detachment for an inside look at policing operations in Surrey. However this event was unfortunately cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Over the years, our annual Open House has provided the officers and employees of Surrey RCMP an opportunity to connect with the people we serve, at our detachment. It provided an opportunity for us to showcase the programs we deliver, and allowed community members an opportunity to have see the specialized equipment we use, and the specialized teams who help keep Surrey safe.
Although we are not able to host an in-person event this year, we will be celebrating Police Week with the community online. From May 11 to 15, Surrey RCMP will be posting of photo series from our policing operations during the pandemic to Twitter and Facebook with the hashtags #ThruOurLens and #NPW2020.
As Surrey RCMP looks forward to continuing its annual Open House in the years to come, we hope the photos we share this year, will help to carry on the spirit of connecting with our community, says Assistant Commissioner Brian Edwards, Surrey RCMP Officer in Charge.
While we may not be able to celebrate in person with the community during Police Week this year, we are grateful for the continued support from the public. Despite the impacts of COVID-19, the Surrey RCMP remains committed to connecting with residents and business owners both virtually and in small groups, to ensure we continue to enhance public safety together.
Please join us on Twitter and Facebook as we share our photos of policing in Surrey.
