A brief hold and secure at two north shore schools has been lifted, following the conclusion of a possible weapon’s report.

On Monday Sept. 12, 2022, at approximately 1:45 p.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers responded to a report of gun-shot like bangs in the area of Southill Street and Sunnycrest Avenue. Brocklehurst Middle and Kay Bingham Elementary schools were placed in a hold and secure by School District 73, as an abundance of caution.

While officers were responding to the area, they heard fireworks and received further reports of the loud bangs, said Corporal Crystal Evelyn, Kamloops RCMP spokesperson. A person was located nearby and a number of fireworks were seized as part of the investigation.

The hold and secure was lifted soon after.

Anyone with information related to this incident is asked to please contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2022-32489.
