Police seek suspect in unprovoked assault

Coquitlam RCMP are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect of an unprovoked assault to a woman on a mobility scooter.

Coquitlam RCMP Frontline officers responded to Glen Park located at 1149 Westwood Street in Coquitlam at 7:50 p.m. on Thursday, February 23, 2023 after a male attempted to pull a woman from her mobility scooter into the woods. The woman was travelling eastbound on Lincoln Avenue when a male exited the woods, said come here, grabbed her around the waist and attempted to pull her off her mobility scooter.

When the suspect was unsuccessful, he ran back into the woods.

The victim did not sustain any physical injuries. Victim services is engaged.

The suspect can be described as having an Asian accent and wearing a dark puffy jacket, dark blue jeans, white shoes and a grey wide-brimmed baseball hat.

These types of assaults are very concerning to the police and the public, said Media Relations Officer, Corporal Alexa Hodgins. Police are asking for the public’s assistance in gathering further information including additional witnesses and dash cam or cellphone footage.
