Police are looking for a suspect who smashed a car windshield

Update 2024-08-14: Comox Valley RCMP have identified and arrested the suspect who smashed a car windshield. Kaj Peterson, 33 years old, of Cumberland was arrested on August 9, 2024 where he was held for court. He has been charged with mischief and assault with a weapon. Peterson has since been released pending his next court appearance on August 29, 2024. The investigation remains ongoing.

Police are investigating after a suspect caused significant damage to a vehicle.

On August 6, 2024, at around 10:00 p.m., a woman was camping in her vehicle along Comox Lake Road, between the Village of Cumberland and Comox Lake, when an unknown vehicle pulled in front of her vehicle. An unknown man exited that vehicle with an axe and struck the windshield of the victim’s vehicle before returning to his vehicle and departing toward Comox Lake.

Investigators are aware that there were several vehicles and campers parked near her location along Comox Lake Road. Police are asking any potential witnesses to this event, or individuals who may have had a similar occurrence contact the Comox Valley RCMP Detachment at 250-338-1321.
