One person found deceased in Port Kells

Surrey RCMP is advising the public that a person has been found deceased in Port Kells area. The death is deemed suspicious at this time and IHIT will be taking conduct of investigation.

On July 19, 2024 at 5:30 am, Surrey RCMP located a deceased person in the 17900-block of 99A Avenue. Surrey RCMP frontline officers and General Investigations Unit were deployed to scene and officers remain in the area to gather additional evidence.

Preliminary investigation has determined the death of this person to be suspicious in nature and IHIT has taken conduct of the file. At this stage, based on initial observations and information collected, investigators believe this to be an isolated incident. The person has been identified and family of deceased have been notified.

The victim is being identified to further the investigation. Seventeen-year-old Wenyan Michael Zhao of Langley was reported missing by his family on the evening of July 18, 2024. He was last seen in the 5900-block of 206 Street, Langley BC.

IHIT is looking for information regarding the movement of Wenyan between 9:00 pm on July 18 to 5:30 am on July 19, 2024. Anyone with further information who has not already spoken to police is asked to contact the IHIT Information line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca
