Trail woman rescued on Victoria Street Bridge

On Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at 9:00 p.m. frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officers and Kootenay Boundary Regional Fire Rescue responded to report of a woman allegedly threatening to harm herself while on the Victoria Street Bridge, in Trail, BC.

The bridge was closed down after the first responders located the 34-year-old Trail woman who had climbed halfway up one of the bridge metal arches. Firefighters used a ladder on their truck to help the woman down safely to the ground from her precarious position.

Once on the ground, officers apprehended the woman under the BC Mental Health Act and transported her to the hospital for a medical assessment.

Car smashes through guardrail on pedestrian pathway

On Thursday, July 11, 2024, at 3:17 p.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer responded to a report of a single motor vehicle incident in the 1400 block of Columbia Avenue, in Trail, BC.

A 42-year-old Trail woman allegedly lost control of her vehicle as she left her driveway and crashed through a guardrail. She and her vehicle ended up perched on the side of steep riverbank of the Columbia River. The woman was not injured in the crash.

The vehicle was later towed off the riverbank.

We suspect the woman may have pressed the accelerator rather than the brake. Thankfully no pedestrians were injured in this incident, says Sgt. Wicentowich

Vehicle collides with scooter

File # 2024-2962

On Friday, July 12, 2024, at 9:41 a.m. frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officers responded to a motor vehicle collision between a vehicle and an electric mobility scooter in the intersection of Cedar Avenue and Spokane Street, in Trail, BC.

A 67-year-old Trail man was crossing the street when a 49-year-old Calgary man driving his vehicle allegedly collided him while in the crosswalk. The 49-year-old Calgary exited his vehicle and immediately rendered assistance to the 67-year-old Trail man.

The 67-year-old Trail man sustained injuries to his head, shoulder, and knee. He was transported to the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital for medical treatment.

Trail RCMP have requested video surveillance footage of the intersection to determine the sequences of events leading up to the collision.

The matter remains under investigation.

Electric wheelchairs and mobility scooters operated under the same rules as pedestrians. They can be used on sidewalks and crosswalks but not on the road or places such as bikes lanes. says Sgt. Wicentowich

Hit and run incident in Trail

On Saturday, July 13, 2024, a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer responded to a report of a hit-and-run incident that occurred in a parking lot in the 1600 block of Second Avenue, in Trail, BC.

A woman noticed that someone has struck her grey 2024 Toyota Camry while it was parked in the parking lot. She noticed it has sustained damage to its front left side after returning from shopping.

Clear the way for Liz

On Saturday, July 13, 2024, a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer received an anonymous report that a woman named Liz was allegedly riding on her electric scooter and beating people up in the 1100 block of Pine Avenue, in Trail, BC.

Officers conducted patrols and made inquiries with local business; however, did not locate this hell-on-wheels lady warrior.

Reports of Liz and her activities may have been over-exaggerated to police, says Sgt. Wicentowich

Single motor vehicle incident leads to impaired driving charge

File # 2024-2969

On Saturday, July 13, 2024, at 8:20 p.m. frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officers and BC EHS responded to a report of a single motor vehicle incident involved two people in the 4300 block of Ross Spur Road, in Fruitvale, BC.

When officers arrived, they located the two people involved in the incident. A 23-year-old Fruitvale woman identified herself as the driver of the crashed vehicle. Officers made observations that lead them to believe the woman’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol. A demand was read to the woman, who provided a sample of breath roadside that resulted in a fail.

The 23-year-old Fruitvale woman was issued a 90-Day Immediate Roadside Prohibition (IRP) under Section 215 of the BC Motor Vehicle Act and had her vehicle impounded for up to 30 days.
Officers also discovered she was unlicensed to drive a vehicle in the Province of BC. An officer served her with a Notice of Driving Prohibition and $276 fine for No Driver’s Licence contrary to Section 24(1) of the BC Motor Vehicle.

Trail RCMP officers will be on the lookout for impaired drivers this summer in an effort to keep our roads safe, says Sgt. Wicentowich

Check stop results in 3-day driver’s licence suspension

On Sunday, July 14, 2024, at 7:29 p.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer was conducting vehicle check stop when he detained a 43-year-old Rossland man and his vehicle in the 4600 block of Highway 22, in Rossland, BC.

The officer believed that the man’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol. A demand was read to the man who provided a sample of breath roadside that resulted in a warn.
The 43-year-old Rossland man was issued a 3-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition (IRP) under Section 215 of the BC Motor Vehicle Act and had his vehicle impounded.

Trail RCMP will continue check stops throughout the summer to deter and detect impaired driving in the summer season, says Sgt. Wicentowich

Speeding in a construction zone results in suspension

On Sunday, July 14, 2024, at 11:30 p.m., a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer investigated a 47-year-old Fruitvale man and his vehicle after he had been reported speeding in a construction zone on Highway 3B, In in the 4600 block of Highway 22, in Rossland, BC. The officer located the man and his vehicle and detained it roadside.

The officer believed that the man’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol. A demand was read to the man who provided a sample of breath roadside that resulted in a warn.
