IHIT takes conduct of shooting investigation near Strawberry Hills in Newton

IHIT is requesting the public’s assistance to further an investigation into a shooting where the victim has since died from their injuries.

Background:

On July 5, 2024, at approximately 5:30 am, Surrey RCMP responded to shooting of a man near the 7300 block of 122 Street near Strawberry Hills in Newton. Surrey RCMP Serious Crimes Unit took conduct of the investigation and determined that this was a targeted, isolated incident. The victim was transported to hospital but has since died of his injuries. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has now taken conduct of this investigation. Update:

To advance this investigation and identify additional witnesses, the victim is being identified as 25-year old Jatindeep Singh from Langley. Jatindeep does not have a criminal record. IHIT can confirm that this shooting was a targeted, isolated incident.

IHIT is working in partnership with the BC Coroners Service, the Integrated Forensic Identification Section, and the Surrey RCMP Detachment. Investigators are completing canvassing in priority areas, contacting associates, and reviewing the collected evidence.

IHIT investigators are looking to speak with the friends and associates of Jatindeep Singh. Additionally, anyone with surveillance video, or dash-camera footage in the area of 7300 block of 122 Street on July 5, 2024, between 4:00 am to 6:00 am is being asked to contact the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
