File # 2024-21952

On Sunday, July 7, 2024, around 11:30 a.m., Prince George RCMP and other first responders attended a motor vehicle incident on Highway 97 south near Swanson Road, approximately one kilometer north of Hixon. A commercial vehicle hauling old and recycled propane bottles had overturned after experiencing a tire blowout, spilling its load across three lanes of traffic.

The incident shut down the highway in both directions for a large portion of the afternoon, as emergency crews cleared the truck from the highway and collected the propane bottles. Thankfully, no one was injured in the incident and only the single vehicle was involved, states Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, Media Relations Officer for the Prince George RCMP.

No criminality is suspected in this incident. The highway was not reopened fully for several hours.
