File # 24-12970

On April 26, 2024, Nanaimo RCMP's Special Investigations/Targeted Enforcement (SITE) Unit conducted proactive patrols in the Nanaimo downtown core. The unit's mandate is to identify and monitor repeat offenders causing the most harm in our community. As such, they have become the subject matter experts on many of Nanaimo's most prolific criminals.

Driving along Victoria Road, the officers saw a Mitsubishi parked at the intersection of Victoria Road and Selby Street. They watched the person in the front passenger seat do a "hand to hand" exchange, drugs for money. The officers pulled in behind the car and subsequently arrested a male driver and female passenger for trafficking.

Officers then began to search the front and back seats of the vehicle. The car was full of suitcases and large bags, and, much to the officers' surprise, a male hiding under the bags in the back seat. He was arrested and removed from the car. The officers also found multiple swords, large knives, drug packaging supplies and a quantity of drug suspected to be Fentanyl in the car.

After identifying the three people, the driver and passenger were released on scene and the man in the back seat, 51-year-old Raymond Gilliland of Nanaimo, has been charged with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking and remains in custody.
