The Kamloops RCMP Detachment responded to approximately 432 calls for service from Friday June 7, to 9 a.m. on Monday June 10, 2024. Below are some highlights from those reports.

Disturbance downtown

2024-17401

Multiple police officers were visible on St. Paul Street Friday morning, where a man had alleged that someone with guns was in his apartment.

On June 7, 2024, around 8 a.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers responded to a residential complex on the 200-block of St. Paul Street, and while en route, received several more calls indicating that the same man was jumping off balconies and stating someone was in his unit and a kidnapping had occurred. As part of the investigation, police discovered the allegations were unfounded.

The suspect was located soon after in a building on Victoria Street West, arrested for Cause of Disturbance, and lodged in cells. Following consultation with the Integrated Crisis Response Team, he was released from custody once sober.

Weapons call downtown

A report of a woman with a gun led to a heavy police presence on Victoria Street Saturday evening.

On June 8, around 6:10 p.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers were called to the 100-block of Victoria Street West where a woman was seen walking with what appeared to be a revolver. Police located the woman and discovered the item was a toy, which could have easily been mistaken as real from a distance.

The item was relinquished to police for destruction to avoid another similar situation.

Man charged with assault, mischief

A Kamloops man was arrested and held for court after police were called to an address on Nelson Avenue Sunday night.

On June 8, 2024, around 11:40 p.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers responded to a report of a man who had allegedly broken a window to get inside a residence, then assaulted a person known to him inside. A suspect was quickly located and taken into custody. He was held for a bail hearing, during which he was released with conditions and a court date for assault and mischief charges.

Stolen motorcycle recovered, suspect charged

Responding to a suspicious person report led to police arresting a man in possession of stolen property.

On Sunday June 9, 2024, just before 2 p.m., a Kamloops RCMP Detachment frontline officer attended the 700-block of Robson Drive in response to the report and located a man, known to police, in possession of a motorcycle reported as stolen.

The suspect was arrested and held for a bail hearing, during which he was released with conditions and a court date. He was charged with one count of possession of stolen property over $5,000.

Break and enter into residence

A resident returned home on Sunday to discover that someone else had moved in for the weekend.

On June 9, 2024, around 5:15 p.m., the Kamloops RCMP Detachment frontline officers were called to the 3500-block of Tranquille Road, where a person came home to find that someone had eaten her food, slept in her bed, fed her cats, and used her laundry facilities. Nothing of value appeared to have been taken.
