File # 2024-2377

On June 12, 2024, at 7:00 a.m., frontline officers with the Nelson RCMP responded to a report of a three-vehicle motor vehicle collision. The collision occurred on Highway 3A, near Nasookin Road.

Investigation showed the collision was the result of a 22-year-old motorcyclist travelling south at a high speed, passing a Dodge truck on the left, inside a slight curve in the road. As an oncoming Toyota 4-Runner approached northbound, neither the motorcyclist nor the driver of the Toyota avoided colliding.

The motorcyclist suffered serious, life-threatening injuries. The other motorists suffered only minor injuries.

To prevent collisions like the one on Highway 3A, it's critical everyone slows down and adheres to highway laws, says Cpl. James Grandy, BC RCMP spokesperson. Speeding and unsafe passing endanger lives and can lead to devastating accidents. Let's prioritize safety and responsibility on the road to protect ourselves and others.

Intoxication is not believed to have been a factor, but speed and unsafe passing were.
