The Terrace RCMP responded to approximately 165 calls between May 20 and May 26, 2024. Of those calls, a number of them were related to traffic offences. Below is a summary of these traffic stops:

May 23, 2024 – While on routine patrols, RCMP conducted a traffic stop with a vehicle which was noted to have expired insurance. The male driver was noted to be prohibited from driving since 2019. The man was arrested for Prohibited driving, and was released with a court date. Violation Ticket was issued for having no insurance and the vehicle was towed from scene. (2024-4126)

May 24, 2024 – An officer observed a vehicle travelling on Lakelse Avenue where the driver was having difficulty keeping the vehicle in his lane. A defect was also observed on the vehicle, making it a safety hazard. The officer conducted a traffic stop with the male driver and confirmed him to be suspended from driving. A violation ticket was issued for having no driver’s license and the vehicle was towed to a location of the driver’s choice. A family member came to provide transportation to the man. (2024-4164)

May 25, 2024 – A vehicle was seen straddling the center line of the road in the Thornhill area. An officer conducted a traffic stop with this vehicle and found the driver to be engaged in conversation on a cell phone as the officer approached the vehicle. Due to the driving behavior which had been observed, the officer initiated an impaired investigation. The male driver stated that he had not consumed alcohol for two days. He was required to provide breath samples into an approved screening device which resulted in a fail (indicating that the man had alcohol in his blood). The man was detained for impaired operation of a motor vehicle and was issued a Notice of Vehicle Impound (30 days), Notice of Driving Prohibition (90 days). The man was given a courtesy ride to a provided address.

May 25, 2024 – An officer conducted a traffic stop after observing a vehicle travelling significantly over the posted speed limit of 50 km/hr on Old Lakelse Lake Drive. An odor of liquor was noted and the officer launched an impaired investigation. The male driver provided two breath samples which each resulted in fails indicating that the man had alcohol in his blood. The man was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle, issued a notice of driving prohibition and the vehicle was impounded by a local tow company. The man and his passengers opted to call a cab to depart the area.
