Vehicle stop leads to drug trafficking investigation

On Sunday, May 26, 2024 a member of the BC Highway Patrol in Fort St. John, observed a brown Infiniti QX4 SUV driving south on 100th Street in Fort St. John and initiated a traffic stop and identified the driver as a 49-year-old male from Fort St. John.
Police noted signs of impairment by drug on the driver. Police officer questioned the driver who stated that he had consumed cocaine the night before. Police began an impaired driving investigation which included the Standardized Field Sobriety Test.
The driver was arrested for Impaired Operation of a Conveyance and taken to the Fort St. John hospital so that blood samples could be taken.
Police also conducted a search of the SUV and located over 30 grams of suspected cocaine and methamphetamine in the vehicle.
The driver was served a driving prohibition and released. The investigation will be forwarded to Crown Counsel for a charge review. The driver could face charges of drug trafficking and impaired driving.
Files such as this typify the efforts made by members of the BC Highway to improve road, and public safety, by focusing on core priorities such as the interdiction of drugs and other contraband.
The BC Highway Patrol would like to encourage members of the public to immediately call police should they observe vehicles they suspect may be involved in drug trafficking.
