File # 2024-4685

On May 23, 2024 the Oceanside RCMP responded to a report of an injured dog after being struck with a machete while in the rural trails near the Errington/Coombs area

Police responded and all parties were identified and spoken too.

The investigation determined that the large dog was off leash and acted aggressively towards another couple who were out walking in the same area. The off leash dog advanced on and bit one of the two on the left leg and in self defense to stop the attack the dog was struck. This strike successfully stopped the attacking dog and the couple quickly departed and immediately self reported the altercation to the Oceanside RCMP.

The couple felt saddened for injuring the dog but felt they had to defend themselves.

No criminal charges are being recommend by the Oceanside RCMP and the public is reminded to leash their pets especially if they have a tendency to act aggressively.
