String of violent incidents, offender captured, now facing 12 new charges

The Merritt RCMP are looking for additional information from the public in relation to a string of violent incidents that occurred in the late afternoon/early evening of May 8th in Merritt's downtown core. 

The Merritt RCMP responded to eight (8) separate incidents in the downtown core of Merritt between 1:30pm in the afternoon and 9:30pm in the evening.  The male was reported to be assaulting innocent parties who happened to be in the area.  The male was located at approximately 9:30pm in the Diamondvale neighborhood.  The male was arrested without further incident and held for court. 

The male in question is Kevin Edward Young (35 years old) of no fixed address, who is well known to the Merritt RCMP.  Young is facing twelve (12) new charges including four (4) counts of Assault, three (3) counts of Uttering Threats, four (4) counts of Breach and one (1) count of Mischief. 

Young remains in custody and will make his next court appearance on May 13th,2024.
