E-transfer fraud:

A local resident reported an e-transfer fraud to the Kitimat RCMP on February 1st. It was reported that they had received a text message from a family member with an email address asking for assistance. A sum of money was sent, before finding out that the family members did not require assistance. The file was referred to the Canadian Anti Fraud centre. Please be aware that this is a common scam and once the money has been accepted, there is no way of recovering it and tracing the origins of the text and email are untraceable. If a family member requests assistance out of the blue, please follow up with them before sending anything. (2024-379)

Public Drinking:

While making proactive patrols, during the evening of February 2nd, a Kitimat RCMP officer came across a group of three persons drinking in a public space near the 400 block of City Centre. All three were co-operative provided their identification and apologized for their indiscretion. The alcohol was disposed of, the trio was provided a verbal warning and sent on their way. (2024-395)

90-day Immediate roadside suspension:

A vehicle without licence plates and being operated in a manner that caught the attention of a Kitimat RCMP officer while making routine patrols during the evening of February 3rd.A traffic stop was conducted and an investigation into the impaired operation of a motor vehicle was started. After providing a sample of breath into a roadside screening device, it was found the driver had consumed an amount of liquor that was above the legal limit to drive, resulting in a 90-day immediate roadside driving prohibition. The vehicle, which was determined not to be insured, was also impounded for 30 days after the driver was served with the driving prohibition and a violation ticket. (2024-408)

Suspicious person:

The Kitimat RCMP received a report of a suspicious person on February 5th. It was reported that overnight, an unknown person had been seen walking around a business parking lot for a long period of time. No criminal offence seemed to have been committed, but it was just strange. The Kitimat RCMP would like to remind everyone that if you see something suspicious, please contact the RCMP right away, so the matter can be investigated. If the call to police is left until to late, it is very difficult for the officers to follow up. (2024-425)

Driver arrested:

On February 7th, while making routine patrols, a Kitimat RCMP officer located a vehicle that appeared to have expired insurance and the vehicle had a safety concern. During the traffic stop, the driver was arrested and a quantity of suspected narcotics was located. The driver was also found to be un unlicensed driver resulting in being served a driving prohibition. The investigation into this file is on going. (2024-457)

Guns N Hoses game this Saturday:

The Annual Guns N Hoses hockey game is here! Come out to the Tamitik Arena on February 10th to watch a very spirited charity hockey game. The doors open at 6 pm, game starts at 7 pm, right after a much-anticipated mascot race between the RCMP Safety Bear and the Kitimat Fire Department Sparky. It will only cost you a donation to watch. An amazing door prize of a trip for two to a Vancouver Canucks hockey game is being offered, plus a silent auction, Airplane toss and a 50/50 draw. All funds raised will go to support Kitimat Kids Sport, a program that provides grants to help cover the costs of registration fees and equipment so that all kids aged 18 and under in Kitimat can play a season of sport.
