Dossier nº Grand Forks RCMP 2023-2872

On October 1, 2023 at 5:36 PM, Grand Forks RCMP respond to a 911 call from a Community Safety Officer, an employee of the City of Grand Forks, who reported that a male had just tried to attack him with a knife at Gyro park located at 7342 5th St. When the male was unsuccessful in his attack, he turned his attention toward a City work truck and proceeded to smash out the windows and cause other damage. Damage is estimated at $5000.

Officers were quick to arrive on scene and locate the male who was taken into custody without incident. The male, Andre Robert Conn, a 41-year-old man from Grand Forks has been charged with one count of Uttering Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm and one count of Mischief to Property. Conn is currently being held at the Grand Forks Detachment and has been remanded until his next court appearance on October 4, 2023. While initial charges have been approved, once RCMP officers complete a full investigation and disclose all materials and evidence to Crown Counsel, charges may be modified or additional charges may be added.

We are very relieved that no one was hurt in this attack and credit the Community Safety Officer for his swift actions in keeping himself from being injured or worse, stated Detachment Commander Sergeant Darryl Peppler. While attacks like this are not common, they are a reminder of the dangers that people who work in the public can face.

If anyone may have witnessed this incident and has not yet been spoken to by police, you are asked to call the detachment at 250 442 8288.
