On Wednesday, June 14th, 2023, around 3:30 p.m., the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP responded to the discovery of a potential explosive device located in an open area in the 4500-block of 31st Street.

To ensure the safety of the public, frontline officers have cordoned off the area and evacuated several nearby businesses.

31st Street between 45th Avenue and 47th Avenue will be closed until further notice.

The area will remain cordoned off until officers with the RCMP Explosive Disposal Unit have safely examined, and dealt with the item if necessary, states Constable Chris Terleski, Media Relations Officer for the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP. We are urging members of the public to avoid the area as we await the arrival of our EDU Team at the scene later this evening.

Information updates will be provided when available.
