RCMP respond to fatal avalanche on the Kicking Horse Resort

On February 16th, 2023, at 1:00 p.m., the Golden-Field RCMP was called to a report of an avalanche just out of bounds of the Kicking Horse Mountain Resort. RCMP along with Search and Rescue arrived and confirmed a group of six skiers had been caught in the avalanche. Of the six, two were found deceased. The group had been skiing in the back-country when the avalanche was triggered. The other members of the group suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The group was properly equipped with kits and beacons.

Golden-Field RCMP are working alongside the BC Coroners Service in the investigation.
