On the afternoon of September 15, 2022, the Terrace RCMP were contacted by staff at Caledonia Secondary School and made aware of a screen shot that had surfaced through social media.

The screen shot was comprised of a black background with text on it stating, if you get this don’t go to school tomorrow I hear the shooting is going to be tomorrow so be safe and don’t go. The screen shot had been captured many times and at the bottom of the screen was the tag line @skeena kids.

The school quickly engaged RCMP, Safe Schools, and VTRA (Violence Threat Risk Assessment). The VTRA team looked into the post which yielded no results within the radius of Skeena Middle School or Caledonia. Together with Safer Schools, the VTRA team determined that the post could have originated anywhere on any day.

All agencies involved agreed that the risk in this instance was low. Regardless, school staff handled the information seriously and RCMP will be maintaining a presence in and around these schools on September 16.

If anyone has information about crime, please contact the Terrace RCMP at 250-638-7400 or at Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
