Nanaimo file # 2023-20835 Theft of dingy 

Sometime between June 12th and June 17th a brand new, dark grey dingy was stolen from 1690 Stewart Ave. Unknown make or serial number. Tip: Record all serial numbers and identifying marks on vessels and take pictures of same.

Nanaimo file # 2023-20982 Theft from shed

At approximately 1 AM on Wednesday June 21, 2023, a shed in the backyard of a home in the 1800 block of Valley Oak Drive was broken into. A neighbor’s security light activated around 1 AM so this is when the owner believes that theft occurred. Taken was a Ryobi hedge trimmer, reciprocating saw, hand-held vacuum and 2 four-volt batteries. Total value of the loss- $550. No serial numbers or identifying marks were available. Tip: Sheds are often targeted by criminals. Ensure that sheds are secured with a heavy-duty lock and mark all tools with an engraver. Pictures should also be taken.

Nanaimo file # 2023-21181 Theft of tires

Sometime between 11:45 AM and 2 PM on Friday June 21, 2023, two tires were stolen from a Ford F450 truck parked at the Departure Bay Ferries long term parking lot. The truck was checked by security at 11:30 AM, and when security returned at 2 PM the truck was on wooden blocks and the tires were missing. The owner is from Tofino and has been advised.

Nanaimo file # 2023-21789 Theft from Trailer

At approximately 1 AM on Friday June 23,2023, a large trailer owned by Caliber Communications, parked next to the side of Value Village, University Heights Mall was broken into. The trailer contained compressed boxes of donated clothing. A video of the incident was obtained and showed a suspect using a metal pole to break open the gate securing the trailer. The suspect appears to be a man, 5 ft.6, wearing a black sweater, black track pants, white shoes and riding a white bike.

Nanaimo file # 2023-21039 Theft of truck

At approximately 4:15 AM on Thursday June 22, 2023, a white older model F350 diesel with a green box was stolen from the driveway of a home in the 1000 block of Oakley Crescent. The owner told police he woke up to hear a car door close and his diesel engine starting up. The owner gave chase and tried to open the locked driver’s door but was unable to do so. He then jumped into the box but once the truck started to move, he decided this was not a good place to be and jumped out. When he hit the ground, his ankle turned and broke. The truck has not been recovered. The suspect is described as a Caucasian man, short hair, mid 30’s. The plate attached is RV6910.

Nanaimo file # 2023-20963 Theft from truck

Sometime overnight on Wednesday June 21,2023, an unlocked grey Nissan Frontier, parked in the 2300 block of Briarwood Place was broken into. Items taken consisted of a grey Arc-teryx jacket, an Under-Armor sweater, Apple Air-buds, and 150-piece Master Craft socket set. Tips: Unlocked vehicles account for 40 percent of all vehicle thefts. Tip: Don’t leave valuables in unattended vehicles and ensure all doors are locked.
