File # 2017-37150
In the past two weeks there have been 5 reported thefts of bicycles at Vancouver Island University (VIU) and it is believed two males may be responsible for a majority of these thefts. In each incident the bikes were locked however bolt cutters or other tools were used to snap the chain lock. Several bikes were also registered with the 529Garage app.
The attached pictures show two male suspects riding off with bikes stolen on Friday November 3rd. The male suspects are both white and in their early twenties. If you have information on the identity of either suspect, please call the Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345. If you wish to remain anonymous contact Crime Stoppers at www.nanaimocrimestoppers.com, text 274637 or call 1-800-222-847.
When leaving your bicycle unattended it should always be secured with a lock that is not easily defeated. Registering your bike with the 529Garage app will not prevent it from being stolen but will certainly assist police agencies and the public alike with finding it.
