Three persons located deceased at a house fire

Just after 12:30pm on October 10th, the Nanaimo RCMP attended a residence in the 700 block of Nicol Street, where a residence was in flames. Three people were found deceased at the residence, including two adults and a 7 year old girl. The Nanaimo RCMP is working with the fire department to investigate the scene. The cause of the fire, and cause of the deaths will be investigated thoroughly by the Nanaimo Detachment's Serious Crime Unit and fire investigators from both the RCMP and Nanaimo Fire Department. The BC Coroner service is also involved in the investigation.

This is a terrible tragedy to hit our community stated Corporal Jon STUART of the Nanaimo RCMP. We are working with the fire department to investigate this incident. Family of the deceased have been contacted, and School District 68 has been notified as the young girl attended a local school. This investigation is still in the initial stages, and may take a significant amount of time due to the complexity of cases involving fires.

The names of the deceased will not be released at this time. No further releases or interviews will be done this evening. There will be an opportunity for the media to obtain a video/audio statement of this release, and any updates, on Wednesday October 11th, at 10:00 am, at the Nanaimo RCMP detachment.
