Violent robbery of local beer and wine store

The Nanaimo RCMP is investigating a robbery of a local beer and wine store in which the suspect armed with a knife and bat, made off with an undisclosed amount of cash. The incident occurred on Saturday September 30th at approximately 10:40 pm at the Harewood Arms Beer and Wine located at 508 Eighth St.
Employees of the business called 911 to report they had just been robbed by a suspect, believed to be a male, wearing a
scream mask and waving a knife and baseball bat. Upon entering the business the suspect immediately began banging the bat on the counter. The suspect was also carrying a large knife and demanded the clerks hand over money from the till. With money in hand the suspect ran out the front door and was last seen running westbound in the direction of Howard Ave. The clerks were not injured but were traumatized by the ordeal. Officers immediately attended along with a Police Services Dog but were unable to locate the suspect. The bat and knife believed to have been used in the robbery were later located the next day near the business.
The suspect is believed to be a male and is described as follows:
- 5 ft.6 to 5 ft.9
- medium build
- wearing a black gown, white shirt, gloves and Halloween scream mask
- carrying a white packsack
