The thousands of people expected to attend this weekend Marine Festival can expect the Nanaimo RCMP to be out in full force to ensure the weekend is fun and enjoyable for everyone. The policing approach will be firm but fair.

The activities kick off Friday (http://www.harbourliving.ca/event/2017-nanaimo-marine-festival-and-international-world-bathtub-race and conclude Sunday with the world famous bathtub races. The fireworks held annually on Saturday expect to draw in excess of 10,000 people. Beer gardens will be operate out of Maffeo Sutton Park on Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoon.

There are many activities throughout the weekend which showcase our beautiful city. With that in mind there will be no tolerance for individuals who choose to over consume alcohol or other illegal substances. We want people to have fun but if their behaviour is inappropriate or poses a risk to others, they will be dealt with in a firm but fair manner. This may result in them being asked to leave an event, fines being issued, or being arrested under Liquor Control Act. If their behaviour is criminal in nature, then charges could also be considered. The choice is entirely up to the individual , said Constable Gary O'Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP.

There will be an enhanced Bar Watch for Friday and Saturday night and local waters will patrolled and monitored by RCMP Reserve Constables operating the Detachment’s 733 zodiac.
