File # 2017-18447

On June 14th, 2017 at around 0830 am, the Nanaimo RCMP received a report of a threat concerning Park Avenue Elementary. Out of an abundance of caution, the staff and students were evacuated from the school to the field. As it was anticipated that the school would not be accessible for some time, the staff and students were walked to John Barsby Secondary School for their safety and security. Some parents picked up their children at that location. A subsequent investigation revealed nothing of concern, and the remaining students were returned to the school.
Schools are a priority, and police evaluate all information thoroughly. It is hoped that anyone with information about this incident would come forward to assist in the investigation reported Cpl. Jon Stuart of the Nanaimo RCMP. The investigation is ongoing.
