From citizens apprehending a robbery suspect to officers performing life saving resuscitation to municipal staff handling a traumatic call for help, acts of bravery and dedication to the community will be recognized at this year’s Surrey RCMP Officer in Charge Awards held at the Surrey Arts Centre this Tuesday, May 15th at 6:30pm.

Every year this ceremony recognizes the fine and sometimes heroic work that occurs at this detachment and throughout the city during the previous year, says Surrey RCMP Assistant Commissioner Fraser MacRae. It also provides us an opportunity to pause and reflect on the caliber of men and women who, everyday, commit themselves to public safety here in the City of Surrey.

Over 100 awards will be presented to officers, support staff, and civilians for their efforts.

Other examples of excellence being recognized include:

  • a civilian who interceded during the stabbing of a female colleague
  • a civilian who tracked down and detained an impaired driver after a crash
  • officers and hospital staff who prevented a woman from jumping off a parkade
  • an off-duty officer who followed and detained two armed robbery suspects
