The RCMP Federal Integrated Proceeds of Crime unit assisted Kamloops RCMP in forfeiting the house in this video to Crown as an offence related property in the investigation. Offence Related Property is a property that is used for committing criminal offences and can be taken from the criminal and turned over to government, as in this case.

Video Description: The video shows a regular looking house that was being used as a ‘Crack House’. There are scenes showing the rooms in various states of disrepair.

Take a Video Tour Inside a Crack House

When the crack house was in operation, there had been many noise complaints, prostitution and crimes in the area, as well as a major health and safety concerns for the neighbours around.

Now that the house is in the hands of government, it will be cleaned and re-fitted before it is re-sold.  This will bring up its own property value and that of the neighbourhood.

By forfeiting this house, the RCMP were able to:

  • instantly remove the criminal activity and the nuisance from the neighbourhood - cleaning up the streets that were filled with transient drug addicts who would go to this house to buy and sell drugs.
  • cut short on the money supply available to the owner, making it more difficult for him to restart the operation again in the neighbourhood or somewhere else in the future.

Protect yourself and your property

As you can see from the video, the house was situated in a neighbourhood similar to most of ours.  There is no prediction on when a crack house may pop up in your neighbourhood.  But you can help the police keep your neighbourhood safe by being aware of the neighbours around you, and contacting your local police when you see suspicious people coming and going in your neighbourhood.
