How to Apply for a Chauffeur Permit
Those who wish to apply for a permit must attend the North Vancouver RCMP Detachment and speak with an employee to start the application process. Applicants must provide the following:
- Valid BC Driver’s License
- Faxed ICBC Driver

Abstract (within the last 30 days) - Faxed ICBC Claims History (within the last 30 days)
- Letter of employment from a local taxi company (within the last 30 days)
- Taxi Host
- Proof of legal entitlement to work in Canada (Includes one for the following: Canadian Birth Certificate, Canadian Passport, original Canadian Citizenship documents or Permanent Resident Card)
Applicants will also be required to undergo a Police Information Check – Vulnerable Sector check (PIC-VS) for any sexual offence for which a pardon has been granted.
Drivers who are new to North Vancouver, or have not driven in North Vancouver for more than two years, may be required to undergo a probationary observation period to ensure their suitability to operate as a chauffeur.
Reasons for denial include, but are not limited to, the following:
- More than 5 violation tickets within the last 5 years
- More than 5 at fault collisions
- Negative police involvement which may include, but is not limited to:
- Criminal offences
- History of violence
If you have received a probationary permit, you need to bring the following items in order to receive the next installment:
- Driver’s License
- Faxed ICBC Driver

The cost for a Chauffeur Permit it $58.70 and is non-refundable. Application processing time is 14 business days (including probationary renewals) and does not include weekends or statutory holidays. If you are renewing your permit please make sure you allow for this 14 day processing time. You cannot come earlier than 30 days from the expiry of your permit.
