Diversity and Indigenous Peoples Unit

Diversity Vehicle

Surrey's population is fast growing and ever changing. The Surrey RCMP embraces the values of diversity and recognizes the importance of working with our diverse communities to promote public safety.

The goal of the Surrey RCMP is to have a workforce that is reflective of the city we serve. Collectively, our officers, employees and volunteers speak over 50 different languages.

The Surrey RCMP Diversity and Indigenous Peoples Unit is composed of a Diversity & Indigenous Sergeant, Corporal, and Constable, a First Nations Policing Constable and two municipal employee Diversity Coordinators.

The Surrey RCMP continuously works to develop our relationship with Surrey’s land-based nations of Semiahmoo, Kwantlen and Katzie First Nations. We have a Community Tripartite Agreement with Semiahmoo First Nation to provide police services to the nation, along with a dedicated First Nations police officer, who has served in the position for 14 years and is a proud member of the Gitxsan First Nation.

The unit's mandate is to enhance Surrey Detachment's ability to connect with the city's diverse communities.

Some examples of projects and initiatives undertaken by this unit include:

The Diversity and Indigenous Peoples Unit also works with community partners to enhance our community and promote diversity.
