File # 2023-3443

On February 21 at approximately 10:30 a.m., the West Shore RCMP Bike Unit was patrolling the Galloping Goose Trail near Hospital Way in View Royal, when they came across a man and woman riding on a stolen wheelchair that belonged to Victoria General Hospital.

Officers determined the wheelchair was stolen and arrested the two suspects for possession of stolen property. Upon searching the suspects, police uncovered a large quantity of drugs, including approximately 14 grams of suspected crack cocaine, unknown pills, drug trafficking paraphernalia, a knife and collapsible baton. Both suspects were bound by court ordered conditions to not possess any weapons. They were also arrested for trafficking controlled substance and have been released. The investigation is ongoing and police expect charges to be forthcoming in this matter.

This is exactly the sort of proactive drug and property crime enforcement that our Bike Patrol Unit was designed to address. said Cpl. Don Gaven who is in charge of West Shore RCMP Bike Patrol Unit. Our unit patrols the West Shore year-round rain or shine, keeping our trails and community safe.
