File # 2023-1469

On January 22 2023, at approximately 7:40 p.m. West Shore RCMP responded to a motor vehicle collision in the northbound lane of the Trans Canada Highway just South of Leigh Rd. The northbound lanes were shut down for approximately an hour while crews worked to clear the scene.

Officers attended the scene and observed a 2011 BMW X6 had collided with a 2018 Hyundai Elantra. Investigation revealed the 2011 BMW X6 was being driven by 31-year-old male who was driving at excessive speeds estimated between 180-200 km/hr when he lost control and collided with the Elantra. The BMW then slid approximately 450 meters and crashed into the meridian concrete barrier. Both vehicles were severely damaged.

The driver of the BMW was charged under the Motor Vehicle Act for excessive speeding which carries a $368 fine and 3 penalty points to your driver’s license. Additionally, the vehicle was impounded for 7 days, said Cpl. Nancy Saggar, West Shore RCMP Media Relations Officer.
