Surrey RCMP officers will be taking a chilly dip at Crescent Beach later this month in support of Special Olympics BC athletes as part of the 2024 Polar Plunge.

The annual fundraising event raises money in support of life-changing year-round programming offered by Special Olympics BC in more than 50 communities around the province. This year, Team Surrey RCMP will be making the plunge alongside Special Olympics BC athletes, as well as teams with the Surrey Firefighters Charitable Society, Surrey Sheriffs, and representatives from the BC Lions football team. A warming tent will also be available for all participants, supplied by Royal Canadian Marine Search & Rescue – Station 5 (RCMSAR5) and UA Local 170.

We are proud to support Special Olympics BC as they work to enrich the lives of people with intellectual disabilities through the power of sport, says Supt. Harm Dosange, Community Services Officer. Their programming provides vital social connection and healthy physical activity for thousands of athletes in our province.

My favourite thing about being a part of Special Olympics is the opportunity to compete and train and meet new friends at different conferences, events, and games, says Surrey athlete Mark Hamblett. Special Olympics is a great opportunity to get involved socially, to keep yourself fit, and have the opportunity to realize what your potential is.
