Suspect charged in 2019 stabbing

Surrey RCMP is providing an update to the investigation of a 2019 stabbing at a banquet hall in Newton.

Charges have been laid against a 22 -year-old man in connection with a stabbing which occurred on February 15, 2019, at a banquet hall in the 8100-block of 128 Street in the Newton area (see previous release: February 19, 2019).

Following a fulsome investigation by the Surrey RCMP General Investigation Unit, Karnvir Garcha, a 22-year-old Surrey resident has been charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, and assault causing bodily harm. Karnvir Garcha is currently in custody and will appear in court later this month.

We appreciate all who came forward to assist us in this investigation, says Staff Sergeant Kirk Duncan, Surrey RCMP. We all have a responsibility when it comes to public safety and, in this instance, everyone stepped-up and helped us to bring about a successful conclusion.
