On October 9th, 2017, at approximately 2:45pm, Surrey RCMP received several calls reporting that a cyclist had been struck in the 16000 block of 64th Ave. It was reported that an eastbound cyclist had been struck from behind by an eastbound vehicle. The cyclist was thrown from his bicycle and landed in a ditch after being struck. The offending vehicle continued eastbound.

Officers attended to the scene and were able to obtain information from witnesses that lead police to a nearby residence a short distance away. The suspected driver was located and taken into custody. The cyclist was transported to hospital in serious, but non-life threatening condition.

The investigation is in its early stages, however, speed, alcohol or drugs have not been ruled out as contributing factors in this collision.

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or observed the suspect vehicle driving either before or after the collision, is asked to call the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502. If you wish to remain anonymous, please contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or go to www.solvecrime.ca.
