File # 2016-93097

On Thursday, June 30th at approximately 3:15pm, Surrey RCMP was advised by a concerned citizen that two infant children were left unattended in a parked vehicle, which was left running, in a mall parking lot in the 7300 block of King George Boulevard.

Surrey RCMP located the parked vehicle with the two children, ages 3 years old and 1 year old, inside. The vehicle was locked, it was running, and the air condition appeared to be on. The children did not appear to be in distress. After a brief search the mother was located nearby shopping and the children were removed from the vehicle. They were not in distress nor were they physically harmed.

The Surrey RCMP’s investigation remains open at this time.

Police warn of the dangers of leaving children unattended at any time, especially unattended in a running vehicle. A toddler is easily able to engage a vehicle transmission which could put the vehicle in motion.
