Playing around with real-looking plastic knives got the attention of bystanders and the police at Myrtle Park in North Vancouver. At approximately 4:30 pm on January 04, 2017, North Vancouver RCMP attended the Strathcona Road park after receiving a call about people seeing a person brandishing a large knife. A female resident who lives nearby was walking through the park with her two daughters when they were shocked to see a young male holding a large knife threateningly to two other males. The young male subsequently started to chase after the two males who were trying to run away.

Police searched the park and located the three youths. When questioned they admitted sheepishly that they were playing tag with plastic knives. From the witness’s excellent description of the youths police were able to quickly identify them and determine no harm had been done to any of them.

Since an imitation weapon can be perceived as something other than what it actually is police caution such behavior in a public place as being potentially dangerous, said Cpl. Richard De Jong of the North Vancouver RCMP. Given different circumstances, along with minimal lighting, police officers may not have known if the weapons were real or not!

Police gave warnings to the three local youths, aged 12 and 13 years, for their actions and subsequently took them home to their parents.
