On September 25th at around 7:00 p.m. Langley RCMP Traffic officer stopped two vehicles travelling at 156 km/h in the 7600 block of 200th Street.

The posted speed limit at that location is 70 km/h. Both drivers held only Class 7 (New Driver) Licenses.

Over the years an abundance of evidence attributes a significant percentage of traffic fatalities in Canada directly related to speeding. This is further aggravated by the increased stopping distance, driver reaction time and the reality of the potential devastating impact with higher speed collisions.

Langley RCMP Traffic Services would like to highlight the significant risk these incidents pose to the general public. Keeping our roads and community safe continues to be a priority. This high-risk driving behaviour will not be tolerated on our streets and highways. Our enforcement efforts will continue to target this conduct in our community.

Two vehicles on tow truck impounded for excessive speeding

Both vehicles involved in the September 25th incident were impounded for seven days. The drivers were issued violation tickets for excessive speeding with a specified penalty of $483.00. Further, they will be responsible for the cost of towing and storage for the duration of the impound. Lastly, both drivers will face the very real possibility of a driving prohibition.

Anyone witnessing high risk driving behaviour is asked to contact Langley RCMP so we can work together to keep our community safe.
