Dossier nº 2017-30139

Shoppers at Wilowbrook Mall were treated to a bit of live action on Friday (last week) when police chased a car thief through the mall.

While patrolling the Walnut Grove area just after noon Friday, an officer from Lower Mainland Police Dog Services took notice of a male entering a 2013 Ford Focus that had been stolen from Surrey sometime overnight. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle unsuccessfully and the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed.

Fortunately, Air One was in the area and followed the vehicle through Langley to Willowbrook Mall. The driver exited the vehicle and ran into the mall. A Langley officer located him in Sears and was able to place him under arrest without further incident.

Mauricio Javier AVILA, a 25 year old Surrey Male has been charged with Possession of Stolen Property, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Fail to Stop for Police, and Driving while Prohibited. He has been remanded in custody and will next appear in court on August 24th.
