Five on the Fifth – Community Survey

Every other year since 2011 we’ve asked the people we serve to share their opinions and experiences with us through a brief, confidential online survey. Survey results help us make the best possible impact on community safety and public trust. For the September Five on the Fifth, we’re sharing some of what we’ve learned in past surveys and promoting the 2017 survey.

  1. Connected communities are safer communities. In 2015, more than 90 per cent of respondents reported feeling safe in their community. And a strong sense of community was one of the factors most respondents said impacted how safe they felt. This makes sense to us: Neighbours that know each other watch out for each other, and knowing your neighbours makes it easier to spot suspicious activity.   2. If you see something, you don’t always say something…but you should. Of respondents who have reported witnessing suspicious or criminal activity but not reporting it to us, the most common justification is that the incident was too minor. We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again…there is no such thing as too minor. We can’t be everywhere so we rely on people like you to let us know what’s going on when we’re not around. The information you report helps us investigate, prevent and reduce crime. So, no matter how insignificant you may think an incident is, please report it by calling our non-emergency line (604-945-1550).
  3. Our front counter clients are missing out on a great opportunity. While most respondents know about most of our programs and services, very few are aware of one important program: our front counter client survey. Anyone who visits our main detachment front counter can give us feedback on their experience by completing the survey either in hard copy or online. Whether you came in for a police information check, to get fingerprints taken, to turn in found property, to apply for a chauffeur’s permit or any other reason, we want to hear from you. If you’ve recently visited the main detachment but didn’t fill out a survey, you can also complete one now.
  4. Social media has helped us get and stay connected with you. When we started doing community surveys in 2011, we were not using social media. By the time we did our last survey in 2015 we had more than 6,000 Twitter followers and our survey response rate almost doubled. This time we have more than 10,000 followers on Twitter and nearly 2,000 on Facebook and we are hoping to see that translate into even better response for the 2017 survey.
  5. The 2017 Community Survey is now on  (https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/cqrcmp2017) and runs until October 10th. If you live, work, study or play in Anmore, Belcarra, Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam or the Kwikwetlem First Nation, please take a few minutes to give us your feedback.
