A small-town boy who rose to lead the Coquitlam RCMP is now also a Member of the Order of Merit of the Police Forces of Canada.
Since leaving Sweet Bay, Newfoundland and joining the RCMP more than 34 years ago, Superintendent Sean Maloney has solved problems by building bridges with the communities he serves.
I’ve learned a lot of lessons and every lesson has strengthened me for the next job, says Superintendent Maloney,
I hope the lessons that I’ve learned in the past can help find solutions for whatever’s happening now. Partnerships and community relationships are really important to me.
Superintendent Maloney is particularly known for building trust, understanding and accountability with First Nations. Under his direction, a collaborative effort built three new police Detachments in First Nations communities (Kwadacha, Kitasoo and Ahousaht). Superintendent Maloney has also engaged with the community to address issues with youth, victims of crime, and crime prevention.
Superintendent Maloney is currently the Officer in Charge of Coquitlam RCMP. He received his Member of the Order of Merit from the Governor General of Canada, His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, on May 25, 2017, at a ceremony in Ottawa.
Established in October 2000, the Order of Merit of the Police Forces honours the leadership and exceptional service or distinctive merit displayed by the men and women of the Canadian Police Services, and recognizes their commitment to this country. The primary focus is on exceptional merit, contributions to policing and community development. For more on the Order of Merit: https://www.gg.ca/document.aspx?id=14950
