Summer isn’t over for thieves

As we head into another week of hot weather, remember that even though we live in a safe community, there are thieves taking advantage of unlocked doors and windows.

From June to July, Coquitlam RCMP saw the overall number of break and enters to homes nearly double and about 40% of those thieves got in through unlocked or open doors and windows.

Although the overall crime numbers are low they can be lower, says Corporal Michael McLaughlin with Coquitlam RCMP. Police tend to see this spike in break and enters every summer during the hottest weeks. We all need to make sure we don’t get complacent just because we live in a safe community.
