The application process begins today, March 20, for 96 lucky kids who want all the fun of being a police officer without the long hours and stacks of paperwork.

The Seventh Annual Coquitlam Junior Mountie Police Academy (JMPA) is free for children who live in Anmore, Belcarra, Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Kwikwetlem First Nation and Port Moody.  You can find applications at the Coquitlam RCMP Detachment (2986 Guildford Way, Coquitlam) or any of the Community Police Stations in Coquitlam or Port Coquitlam.  The applications must be received in person or by email (coquitlam_jr_mountie@rcmp-grc.gc.ca) before May 19, 2017.

If you are selected we will call you before June 9.  If you don’t make it on your first try your name will go on a waiting list. Alternates could be selected right up to the week of the Academy.  Students who have attended the JMPA in previous years are welcome to apply again this year but a lot of the material will be the same.

The Junior Mountie Police Academy gives young people a chance to look at the inside world of policing, says Supt. Sean Maloney, the Officer in Charge of Coquitlam RCMP, our goal is to foster a better understanding between youth and the RCMP and to let the cadets know that the police are there to help them when they face trouble.

When: August 14 to August 18, 2017, 8:30am to noon daily.  Registration begins on August 14 at 8:00am.

Where: The Poirier Sports & Leisure Complex, 633 Poirier Street, Coquitlam, BC.

Special Events:

The JMPA is closed to the public with the exception of the Emergency Vehicle Show N’ Shine.
