Tour de North - Jail & Bail Fundraising Event

Prince George

2017-09-13 14:12 PDT

A dedicated team of cyclists and support staff are taking part in the Canadian Cancer Society’s annual Cops for Cancer Tour de North. The event began on Tuesday in Williams Lake and will end in Dawson Creek on Monday September 18th.

To support fund raising efforts, the Prince George RCMP held a ‘Jail & Bail’ event on September 13th at Northland Dodge in Prince George. The ‘Jail & Bail’ concept involves members of the community nominating prominent, high profile citizens to be ‘arrested’ and placed in a make shift jail in a very public setting. The arrested ‘jail-birds’ are required to raise ‘bail’ before being released back into society. In an effort to avoid disrupting the busy lives of some of the would-be ‘jail-birds’, some participants are allowed to fundraise prior to the event, potentially reducing or eliminating their time in ‘jail’. Organizers set a minimum bail and some arrestees may set a substantially higher fund raising goal (Arrestees must know ahead of time that they have been nominated).

Supt. Warren Brown, the Officer in Charge of the Prince George Detachment, joined other prominent persons in our community and was voluntarily ‘arrested’. He raised bail and stood by to support City of Prince George Major Lyn Hall (on left side of photo) and Cariboo – Prince George Member of Parliament, Todd Doherty (on right side of photo).

The event has raised more than $17,000 go to pediatric cancer research, support programs and Camp Goodtimes.

The Tour will stop in Prince George tonight before traveling 185 kilometers to Mackenzie tomorrow. For more information about the Cops for Cancer Tour de North or to donate, go to www.tourdenorth.ca (English only).
