File # 2017-00294

The Prince George RCMP are continuing to investigate a Break & Enter and Failing to Stop for Police incident that took place yesterday afternoon.

At approximately 12:15 PM on Wednesday January 4th, 2017, the Prince George RCMP received a report of a male breaking into a residence on Valleyview Drive in the City of Prince George. The male was found inside the residence by a representative of the property. The suspect claimed to be a police officer and subsequently fled in a black Dodge pick-up before actual police officers were called.

While en route to the scene, officers located the pick-up being driven south bound on Highway 97. Police activated emergency lights, but the driver failed to pull over. The suspect accelerated and fled the area at a high rate of speed. Police did not pursue. Shortly after, the suspect lost control of the vehicle, struck a postal box and entered the ditch near the corner of Sloan Road and Shamrock Road. The lone suspect fled the vehicle on foot and attempted to break-in to another residence. With the assistance of a Police Dog Service team, the suspect was arrested a short time later hiding in a nearby yard. He was transported to hospital for treatment of minor bite wounds.

A Criminal Code search warrant was executed on the vehicle. A loaded SKS rifle was located and found to have been stolen from a residence in Prince George on December 18th, 2016. View the December 21st, 2016 media release here.
