Motor Vehicle Collision Claims Two Lives

On November 9th, 2017 at approximately 548 PM, a collision occurred on the Inland Island Highway, near Cowie Creek, Fanny Bay, B.C. involving two vehicles.

A vehicle travelling southbound on the highway travelled across the centre median into the path of a second northbound vehicle. The driver of the southbound vehicle succumbed to injuries at the scene of the collision. The two occupants of the northbound vehicle, once extricated from their vehicle, were transported to the North Island Hospital in Courtenay. A short time later, it was learned the passenger had succumbed to their injuries as well.

The northbound portion of the highway was closed for approximately 4 hours for investigative purposes.

North Vancouver Island Traffic Services are conducting the investigation in conjunction with the Coroner's office and at this time no further details are being released pending notification of next of kin. Comox Valley RCMP, Deep Bay Fire Department, Ministry of Highways and the North Island Collision Analyst/Reconstructionist were also in attendance.
