Penticton RCMP week in review 2017-09-26

The following incidents occurred over the past week in Penticton:


2017-15285 At 4 pm, Penticton RCMP’s Targeted Enforcement Unit was conducting surveillance near Walmart on Skaha Lake Road when they stopped a vehicle suspected to be involved in drug trafficking. Two occupants were arrested and found to be in possession of suspected cocaine, methamphetamine and heroin. 32 year old Elkena Michael Knauff of Penticton appeared in court on three counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, several breach charges and possession of stolen property. A 39 year old female resident of Penticton is also facing charges of Possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of stolen property.


2017-15321 A yellow Komatsu PC36R-8 excavator was stolen overnight from an Okanagan Falls winery. It has Freedom Excavation 250-490-7280 displayed on the back, serial number 35301. This matter remains under investigation.


2017-15382 At 125 pm, Penticton RCMP responded to a tractor trailer roll over on Highway 3A by Yellow Lake. The driver was unable to maintain control around a sharp turn and dumped a load of apples, causing the highway to be closed for several hours. The driver and passengers were transported to hospital by BC Ambulance Service with reported minor injuries. The driver was issued a violation ticket under the Motor Vehicle Act for driving without due care.


2017-15460 At 930 pm, Penticton RCMP responded to the Canada Post Office on Industrial Avenue for an alarm and found a rear door window broken. The audible alarm is suspected to have deterred the thieves as no items appeared to have been missing. The investigation is ongoing.


2017-15501 At 120 pm, a 4 door green 1997 Honda Accord, with BC license plate FC025T, was reported stolen from a parking lot on Roy Avenue. Video surveillance shows a male wearing a black Miami Heat baseball cap break into the vehicle with a coat hanger. The owner reports that the vehicle can be started with a screw driver.


2017-15517 At 545 am, Police responded to a report of a female breaking into a vehicle on Arnott Place. The caller followed the female to Brandon Avenue where she was arrested. The 42 year old female was released later in the day with a future court date.

2017-15545 At 3 pm, Penticton RCMP responded to 3rd Street in Naramata where a resident found an old mortar shell while gardening. The RCMP Explosive Disposal Unit attended from the Lower Mainland and safely disposed of the device which was date stamped 1945.


2017-15570 at 2 am, Penticton RCMP attended a Braelyn Crescent residence where the caller reported that his care aid was intoxicated and he did not feel safe. The care aid was found to be extremely intoxicated and belligerent, she was arrested and lodged into cells until sober. The worker was hired by family members who responded to an online advertisement and failed to conduct reference checks. This female was found to have been the subject of numerous complaints for similar incidents throughout the Okanagan.
